OMC has released a ‘coherent’ polymer fibre, with over 7000 individual cores arranged to transmit an imagefrom one end to the other end.

2.0 and 2.5mm diameters cables are available.

“The fibre is designed to provide a lower cost solution to remote imaging in applications where the extremely small diameters of coherent glass fibre, such as those used inside blood vessels, are not required,” said OMC commercial director William Heath. “Resolution is high, making the fibre suitable not only for imaging, but also precision sensing. The technology is extremely versatile and we are just waiting to see what other applications design engineers can come up with.”

Cables are flexible, abrasion resistant, and tensile strain protected.

OMC is based in Cornwall.
