Guide to Cartier Watches

Below, you can gain some knowledge about Cartier watches, and how they are put together. Understanding watch components and being well versed in watch terminology may come in handy, some day, so I have included the important parts, which make up a watch:

- Band; the strip of metal of leather, which attached the watch face and straps around the wrist.

- Clasp; the clasp is the closure of the bracelet. It is traditionally made from a metal, either steel or gold.

- Bezel; the metal ring that surrounds the dial. On some watches, the bezel displays numbers, used for calculations.

- Tachymeter; the tachymeter is a bezel with a scale, which measures the time and distance to determine speed.

- Case; this attaches to the watchband. It is the metal covering, which surrounds the bezel and the dial. The case protects the parts of the watch. The case is also designed to resist water.

- Dial; the dial is the front of the watch, which houses the hands and arms, as well as other markings. The dial is typically covered by a sapphire crystal, to keep it dry and free of dust and debris.

- Crown; the crown is the metal button, located on the side of the case, which is used to set the time and date on the watch. On mechanical watches, the crown is also the winding mechanism, and may control various other functions on chronographs.

The more you understand about how your watch, the better equipped you will be to care for it properly.
