It's important to remember just how much an impact a man's timepiece has on his look. With the exception of his wedding ring, most men will never wear any other accessory, than a wristwatch. It can dress up a casual look or dress down a business suit. A traditional collection, such as Cartier watches or Omegas can add some sophistication to a guy that seems a bit rough around the edges, while a man in a tux can ruin his look with a clunky Japanese model. It may be crazy, but the style of timepiece you decide to strap on will affect your entire wardrobe, so do you go classic or trendy?
I think you have to determine what your true personality is, up front. You may want to take a look in your closet and remind yourself what you look like when you head out the door each day. Your own personal style will lead you in the proper direction.
If you decide on a trendy model, keep in mind that you will most likely be swapping that timepiece out for a more up to date model within a few years. Sometimes, trendy watches can look outdated pretty quickly.
If it's a more traditional collection you choose, examine your budget. Make sure you don't overspend, but that you buy a timepiece that will keep you satisfied for a long time. If you have to save up for the one you truly want, do that. It will be worth it in the long run.
