Ensure your chick-lit sounds real and funny. Of course, you should be willing to humiliate yourself. But you must create an image that sounds real.
Let your character have a life
You have to let your girl to be a bit of a devil. In a novel, that path is often referred to as an 'arc'. Your main character starts in one place, ends up in another, For instance, take The Big Love by Sarah Dunn. At the outset, this is a classic story of girl gets dumped by boy, girl must soldier on.
